About the Item

This is a rare Chinese Ming Dynasty bronze Fu Dog figural bronze tripod lidded censer used for incense. It has a Fu Dog or Qilin figural top lid with superbly carved details. The Fu Dog is hollow with one small hole in its body and an open mouth thus allowing smoke to come up through the Fu Dog's mouth and body. There are a few light marks and dints to the body and one handle has been repaired at the joint. Otherwise it is in very good condition considering its age. The qilin is a legendary Chinese mythological hooved chimerical creature that is said to appear with the imminent arrival or passing of a sage or illustrious ruler. This wonderful Chinese incense burner measures 7.25" high (18.4 cm). The height of the legs is 1.75" (4.4 cm). The diameter is 3.75" (9.5 cm).
