19th Century Chinese Stone Horse Hitching Post

About the Item

This double sided hitching post was used to stall horses for short period of times. They are found throughout China and made during centuries. This hardstone example dates from the 19th century and is sculpted with a double faced abstract representation. It has great patina throughout and has a timeless feel about it. We mounted it on a custom made stand together with a custom iron console displayed in the pictures. The console is included in the price.

The charming figure done completely in the lost wax method is in a primitive naive style. The male figure is dancing excitedly on a rocky outcrop.
