About the Item

Antique Southeast Asian cast bronze buddha head sculpture with verdigris patina mounted on a black base wood stand. Bronze Sukhothai style Buddha bronze head with green patina, from North Thailand. The head is sensitively rendered with a softly contoured face eyes half closed, bow-shaped lips smiling with serene contemplative expression, exhibiting classic features of Sukhothai Buddhas: egg shaped head, a narrow well-shaped nose, tightly curled hair, with arched eyebrows bowed high towards the forehead, prominent elongated ears and flame finial on ushnisha (usnisa) in the Sukhothai tradition, the surface has a beautifully aged patina. The Buddha is mounted on a wood base (later). This head is the larger version, we do have a smaller one listed as well as seen on the pictures # 11 and #12. The last pictures are for scale only, the sale is for only one bronze head, the one listed here. This came from a collection of 5 Asian antique objects from the same collection from an Estate in Beverly Hills California. For sale here is only only one Buddha head, the other objects are also available for purchase in different listings. Buddha head with eyes lowered in meditation, serene and calm, representing the enlightened Buddha. Finely cast modeled with incised chin, bow-shaped mouth, elongated eyes and gently arching brows, flanked by pendulous earlobes, the hair in tight curls over the ushnisha the symbol of his ultimate wisdom. A large flame as symbol of his spirituality is placed on top of his head. The elongated earlobes caused by wearing heavy earrings in his youth, reflect Buddha's royal origin. This head of Buddha Gautama Sakyamuni reveals his serene and meditative character at the highest level. The great teacher is depicted as a friendly human being, with an inner happiness and softly smiling, an embodiment of wisdom and compassion. A very fine small sized bronze head of the Buddha with serene expression mounted on a small later wooden base. Thailand, late 19th century. Measures: Head: 7.5" H x 3.5" W x3.5" D. Black Wood stand: 3" x 3" x 0.5" H. Height overall: 8.75" H x 3.5" x 3.5". Whether adorning a personal meditation space, an elegant study, or gracing the living room, it's an exquisite focal point that effortlessly elevates the ambience, this Buddha bronze sculpture will harmoniously integrates any traditional and contemporary settings.

Tibetan Buddhist Deity Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva Cast Bronze Sculpture
Located in North Hollywood, CA
A metal cast bronze finish on brass in beautiful posture figure of Tibetan Buddhist Padmapani Deity Avalokiteshvara Beautiful Asian sculpture after the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Padmapani, bearer of the lotus) Dimensions: Height : 8.5 inches Width : 4 inches Depth : 2.75.inches. Asia, Nepal circa 1950's. "The bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara is the Buddhist embodiment of compassion. He is often portrayed as an elegant and gracious youth. The cult of Avalokiteshvara worship originated in India and spread across Asia, along with other Buddhist philosophies and practices. In some places Avalokiteshvara eclipses the Buddha in importance. Buddhist rulers, such as Prince Shotoku in Japan and the Dalai Lama in Tibet, have been seen as incarnations of this saviour. In Nepal, Buddhism flourished alongside Hinduism long after the religion had lost favour in India. Although the kings of the Early Malla period who ruled the Kathmandu Valley were Hindu, some of the greatest artistic achievements of the age were Buddhist. This gilt copper figure...
