Antique Gilt Bronze Buddha, 17th Century, 60 Inches

Thailand, Ayutthaya Kingdom, 16th-17th century gold gilt bronze temple Buddha, measuring 60 inches tall This beautiful Buddha sculpture will bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office, or sacred space. The long aquiline nosed holy Buddha , with pleated robes and protruding large and arched eye lids with the eyes narrowly open revealing the pupils, over arching brow continuing the line of the nose, a thin raised outline as the hairline surrounding the face, curls to the domed usnisa now missing the top most finial and with large long thin ears with attenuated earlobes. Pleated robe, aquiline nose, meditation mudra Good garden candidate. Dimensions: 60 inches tall and 22 inches wide, heavy. Important Provenance: Private American collection originally acquired Charlotte Horstmann Ltd gallery, Kowloon, Hong Kong in 1969. (see certificate) . The Charlotte Horstmann gallery, originally located in the Ocean terminal was one of the foremost Asian art galleries in Hong Kong of that time. History of Ayutthaya: The Kingdom of Ayutthaya (also spelled Ayudhya or Ayodhaya) was a Siamese Kingdom that existed from 1351 to 1767. Ayutthaya was friendly towards foreign traders, including the Chinese, Vietnamese, Indians, Japanese and Persians, and later the Portuguese, Spaniards, Dutch, English and French, permitting them to set up villages outside the walls of the capital, also called Ayutthaya. In the 16th century, it was described by foreign traders as one of the biggest and wealthiest cities in the east. The court of King Narai (1656–88) had strong links with that of King Louis XIV of France, whose ambassadors compared the city in size and wealth to Paris. Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity.
