Female Torso Marble Sculpture by Mart De Houwer, 1990-1999

About the Item

Mart de Houwer’s "Female Torso" is a 28 x 17 x 10 inch Carrara marble sculpture created between 1990 and 1999. This minimalist work captures the timeless beauty of the human form with smooth contours and a polished surface that softly reflects light. Carved from pristine Carrara marble, the piece embodies purity and permanence, subtly referencing the classical traditions of Greek and Roman statuary. Reminiscent of Constantin Brâncuși’s reductive forms, it focuses on essential shapes and balanced proportions, inviting contemplation of universal human qualities. The asymmetrical upper section introduces a modern twist, blending tradition with contemporary abstraction. Weighing 7 kg and offered directly from the artist's family, this unique, unsigned sculpture is a testament to de Houwer’s mastery, making it an elegant addition to any modern art collection.
