This attractive serene and contemplative Japanese 19th century stone seated Buddha or kanon known as "Nyoi-rin-kanon" grants your wishes and removes all suffering. It's a remarkable buddhist sculptural survivor and solidly dates to the middle Edo period, 19th century. She is signed with vertical kanji on both sides of the Kanon with patron signatures. Kanon, a Japanese name for Guanyin, is a spiritual figure associated with mercy and compassion. This is a very beautiful and femanine sculpture expertly carved in a pleasing timeless style. An excellent garden or indoor sculptural choice with a genuine spiritual presence. Handmade and hand carved with an original rich and attractive lichen patina appropriate to its significant age and time spent in its Japanese garden environment. China Monumental Pair (2) Antique Stone “Spirit Pathway” Tigers, middle Qing period 1750-1850. Please view our video. Dimensions: 115cm, 46” high and 60cm, 24” in width. Likely utilized as spirit pathway tomb markers, these powerful, benign carved sitting effigies perched on haunches and front paws with round heads and faces exposing defined eye sockets, ears and two fangs a top bases that feature curled tails on side each whole atop a block shaped base and hand-carved from limestone whose surfaces show considerable weatherization from exposure and good age. A large & important pair of rare antique 19th century Indian Polychromed & hand carved stone Dvarpala (temple door guard) statues, circa 1850. Each statue is hand carved as a male Hindu four armed temple guard, the guards holding a mace (Gada) and one hand on a dagger (Katar), another hand holding a lotus flower to represent spiritual enlightenment. Each guard stands crossed legged on a plinth decorated with an elephant, both statues retaining old and yet brightly colored polychromed decoration, the statues are approximately 3/4 lifesize. They are a true pair facing each other and would have flanked either side of the temple door entrance, they are large and very heavy, each figure weighs about 300lbs.
