Large terracotta Buddha head, Burma, Shan States, late 18th Century

About the Item

Large Buddha head in gilt-leaf terracotta with trace of red polychromy. The Buddha must have been between 2.10m and 2.40m tall (if standing). Headdressed with fine curls and Usnisha cranial protuberance. Missing the flamed rasmi, symbol of knowledge and elevation. Burma, Shan States, late 18th c. Total height: 0.57m, head alone 0.34m
