Displayed with complimentary custom stand. Originally collected by Mr. Henry Blackshear in Hilo, Hawaii, this rare handcrafted wooden Massage stick Lomi crafted from wili-wili wood is one of the oldest known message implements known in North America and the islands and is dating to the 18th century. Lomi is traditional Hawaiian massage that uses the hands and carved sticks to realign the body, mind and spirit. Empowered by the breath of life and the healing power of plants and nature, lomi lomi transfers the mana and energy that restores health and beauty, and relieves pain. It was made famous around the world in Hawaii and is a traditional practice in the neighboring Polynesian Islands of Tahiti, French Polynesia, Samoa and Tokelau. Practitioners use the palms, forearms, fingers, knuckles, elbows, knees, feet, sticks and stones.
