About the Item

The morphology of the body shows the typical features of the Art of Siem Reap, the shoulders are wide and quite square, the torso is powerful, we can still distinct that the pectorals were slightly bulging, also all the abdominal part. The deity is shown in a finely pleated sampot can kpin, with a large fold on the left tight and a scarf with extremities ending in a double-fishtail panel in front. The cloth is tied by a belt decorated with two lines of rubbans. Angkor Vat sculptures are always remaining to an archaic form, this one is directly linked with the beauty of Pre-Rup style, second half of 10th century (944-968) For an Angkor Vat production, this sculpture is elegant and souple; look at the line of the body from profile, when the angkor Vat sculptures are very often mostly flat, this figure shows a soft and sensual movement. The piece was not only superbly crafted but also inspired and full of life. We can see the last one of the beauty lines at the neck, the torso is solid but highly harmonious, and the double fish tail shows the originality to have the first fish tail turned in the opposite direction than the second one... It's really a beautiful, discretely sensual and original sculpture of Siem Reap, which already displays the best sculptures of Angkor Vat period.
