About the Item

Astonishing gilded wood carving from Meiji Period, circa 1900. The figure is Jizu Bosatsu (the bodhisattva Jizo), seated in meditation observed by a frog. The Jizo originally probably held a small staff which is now missing. Measures: H: 11.5 in (29.2 cm) W: 8 in (20.3 cm).
