Vintage Indonesian Kain Batik Tulis Supit Urang, Solo (Surakarta), Java, 1950.
A traditional meticulously hand drawn wax resist painting by canting on cotton, of an aquatic theme Supit Urang (shrimp clip) in a four panel design of a pair of matchbook motifs depicting shrimp, fish, water birds and seaweed, all on a Dele Cer (scattered soybeans) background of tiny wax resist reserve bubbles. The textile is dyed in two colors; a caramel soga brown and an indigo blue on a unbleached white cotton ground.
Condition: Excellent.
