About the Item
Woman's shoe with bandaged feet, in embroidered satin.
The custom of bandaged feet is said to have appeared in China in the 10th century during the Tang Dynasty, when the emperor asked his concubine to bandage his feet to perform the lotus dance and thus increase his desire. This custom will become generalized a century later to disappear completely only in the middle of the 20th century under the People's Republic of China.
End of the 19th early 20th century.
