Architectural Element Mayan Demon from the Aztec Room by Waylande Gregory
Located in Las Vegas, NV
An architectural element (demon lizard) designed by Waylande Gregory in the 1920's. This was culled from the Hotel President in KC, Missouri.
Gregory's most famous work at the Hotel President was the Aztec Room, the hotel's dining room, which he decorated in Mayan plaster-of-Paris reliefs as interpreted in an Art-Deco idiom. (2 photos of the actual room shown). Demon is painted in a terracotta color enamel.
This piece is an actual remnant of the Aztec room in which several of these Mayan demon lizards surrounded the upper wall crown...
