Incredible vintage Mid-Century Modern electric wall fireplace square orange frame with gold tone trim, artificial logs, and solid brass screens attributed to Montgomery Ward Style House Fireplace. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials however, it is not signed or marked in any way. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, there were dents, dings, and scratches to finish that have been repaired and the piece repainted. The brass tone trim was also painted due to rust. It is comprised of a fabulous orange square frame with gold tone trim, solid brass screens, artificial logs, AND a wonderful feature tucked away under the logs is a wheel you can turn on that initiates soft crackling noises AND mimics the resonating glow of an actual fire!!! LOVE IT!! This is such a fantastic alternative to a standard fireplace because you get to enjoy the sounds, motions, soft light of the flames, and the warmth of the heater, without the hassle of cleaning up messy wood or charcoal AND there’s no smoke!! Not to mention it’s portable so you can literally put it anywhere… OR hang it on the wall!! It would be fabulous in a living room, a den, dining area OR it would be awesome in a sunroom!! How great would it be to have this fireplace in your bedroom? Romantic, relaxing, and marvelous mid-century modern style!
The original Montgomery Ward began in 1872 as a worldwide mail order business and later developed into a department store chain that operated until 2001. Aaron Montgomery Ward started his business in Chicago and ran into his first competition in the mail order business when Richard Warren Sears introduced their first catalog. Both fought for dominance in the marketplace for much of the 20th Century. They also built a huge distribution center across the country and finally broke the mail order only business when it opened its first brick and mortar retail outlet store in 1926. By the end of the 1930s, Montgomery Ward had become the country's largest retailer. In 1944 the company’s CEO Avery Sewell refused to settle a nationwide strike requested by the Roosevelt administration and President Roosevelt issued an order to seize all Montgomery Ward properties and after World War II and the Depression, Sewell decided not to open any new stores and they soon became the nation's third-largest department store chain. During the 1970s, the company continued to struggle. By 1985, the company closed its catalog business after 113 years and began an aggressive policy of renovating its remaining stores. The current Montgomery Ward Inc. is a national online shopping and mail-order catalog retailer.
