About the Item

These two lovely wirework plant stands are good examples of the small pieces made in the 19th century. Most small items like this have not survived due to use and neglect where many larger forms intended to remain stationary once filled with potted plants have survived. The wire work made easy and possible by the advent of the Industrial revolution became a ready form of manufacture in the period and was used for conservatory furniture and planters. These would have been used on loggias and verandas as well as showing off prized potted plants and flowers. Both are in remarkable condition intact with little to no warping or loss of elements. The taller round two-tiered one is a period victorian piece and has it's old white paint while the smaller oval, also two-tiered, has old gray paint and was made sometime in the 20th century We have left the old finish with rusting as is showing that they have history and use but both can easily be cleaned and painted any fresh new color a client desires. Round 21 diameter 41 tall / oval 28 wide 15.5 deep 17.5 tall. Condition Disclosure: While we do our best to carefully inspect and give a full report on the condition of any item we sell, pointing out any repairs or alterations that may have been done to the best of our knowledge, as is the case with any antique and vintage item, there is a possibility that at some point in the life of the piece that there may have been damaged which has been professionally repaired and as such a repair undetectable it is therefore impossible for us to disclose... we recommend that you also read and agree to the 1st dibs user agreement, particularly sections 9,13,15,18,19 and 27

This lovely old tray made circa 1860 is inlaid with mother of pearl and tole decorated with flowers set into a lustrous lacquer surface applied to the tinware tray. The flowers are painted in a lively and realistic manner and the tray is further decorated with a meandering border of flowers and vines in gilding and colors along the edge of the dished section of the tray and then again on the broad flat area of the tray's edge. The stand in a Regency form is also decorated in similar colors and with gold.
