About the Item

An exceptionally fine quality highly detailed and quite rare single John Rose Coalport “Felt Spar” Porcelain Chamberstick. First quarter of the Nineteenth Century. Hand decoration of scattered flowers sprigs amongst moulded scroll forms heightened in a vibrant onglaze blue. Featuring serrated leaf form and dolphin scroll handle detailed in gold. Condition: Good original mint condition, possibly never used and very well priced considering their fine condition. Mark of Sepia printed Society of Arts mark. Height: (entire) 3” (7.5cm). Width: (at base) 6” (15.5cm). Depth: (at base) 6” (15.5cm). Location: Dublin City, Ireland Affordable Fixed Price Worldwide Store to door shipping in house. Eric Knowles Comments John Rose was presented with the Society of Arts award on May 30th 1820 as shown on the elaborate printed mark that dominates the underside of the base. John Rose was awarded the gold medal for a lead free glaze which had previously been recognised as an often fatal poisoning agent and regrettably still was a century and more later.
