About the Item
Mesmerizing Japanese contemporary museum-quality highly collectible decorative porcelain rectangular charger, extremely intricately gilded and hand painted in blue and red, a signed masterpiece by highly acclaimed master porcelain artist of the Imari-Arita region of Japan (1931-2009.) The artist was admired for his depiction of scenes of nature and intricate geometric patterns. His legacy lives on through his sons, acclaimed porcelain artists in their own right, each of whom specializes in one aspect of their father’s style. He was the recipient of numerous prestigious awards for his exceptional work and unique contributions to the centuries old art. His profile is available upon request.
This exquisite porcelain charger depicts a noble lady on a cherry blossom viewing outing. She stands on a meticulously expressed cedar-plank. The artist shows his artistry in both underglaze and polychrome overglaze painting by portraying the dramatic scenery in polychrome overglazed enameling bringing the cherry blossoms to life and accentuating it with featuring the noble lady and the female retainer in blue underglaze enameling. He adds a humorous touch by placing a cat near her feet, and a more somber note by showing that one of the female retainers carries a sword for her protection.
The scene is framed with the artist's signature hexagon pattern. Each auspicious hexagon encapsulates a five-petaled cherry blossom done in soft hues of yellow and green, and is placed upon a striking dark blue background.
This stunning gilded decorative porcelain charger comes in the original custom-made wooden case (tomobako) signed by the artist.
