This stunning studio art glass piece, signed and numbered, dates back to the 1970s.
It features a transparent, sloped egg shape with frosted sides, except for a clear, flat window at the front.
Through this window, you can admire a beautiful red and gold spiral decoration inside.
A label on the front reads "Studioglas Strombergshyttan Sweden, 24 karat pure gold.
The bottom is etched signed Strömbergshyttan and numbered.
It stands approximately 6" high 2.75" across at the widest area

The Strömberg factory, originally established in Sweden in 1876 as Lindfors, was purchased by Edward Strömberg in 1933. Before acquiring Lindfors, Edward had managed Orrefors and later Eda glassworks. Upon taking over, he renamed the factory Strömbergshyttan, which means "Strömberg's cabin" or "hut." Rare Op Art paperweight was hand blown in elongated ovoid shape. The colored rounded central gather has evenly distributed swirls of blue glass with randomly added yellow pigment placed in abstract, graphic pattern, with the whole structure enclosed in clear glass in sommerso technique. Subtle reflections of the central colored core in clear glass part of the paperweight add complexity and visual interest to otherwise minimal piece.
The paperweight is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the bottom.
Thomas Kelly is an established glass artist working in Vitrix Hot Glass studio in Corning, New York. The Asprey Company is an iconic British luxury home goods maker, located in London, England and was established by William Asprey in 1781, They established their current residence in London on Bond Street between 1847 and 1859 after a couple of acquisitions. They were the Nieman-Marcus of the day and made only the finest products, utilizing the best quality materials; dealing in everything from jewelry to fashion, and appealing to those wanting to buy gifts for weddings, occasions, and events.
This is a customized desk set, consisting of a crystal cut glass inkwell with a brass hinged lid, resting in a velvet lined well. Markings on the velvet lining under the inkwell indicate Asprey manufacture and Bond Street location “Asprey London, 166 Bond Street 22 Albemarle Street”. To the sides of the well are two Wedgwood cameos with the typical Greek mythology themed blue and white jasperware. Resting inside the recessed pen holder is a 14-karat gold nib pen marked “no. 3”, made by Aiken & Lambert, an American company (New York City) and manufacturer of fine quality gold fountain pens. Hand engraved brass mounts are applied to the surface, while the oval shaped inkwell and pen holder rests on three bun feet. The wood is an ebonized calamander (coromandel wood) which is a rare and valuable hardwood from Sri Lanka.
Also included as part of the desk set is a hinged, fold over, double sided document holder with a blotter lined interior. The exterior of the document holder is also of calamander wood, with hand engraved brass mounts to the top surface. Alderman John Joseph Mechi (1802–1880) was a silversmith, banker, inventor and Alderman of the City of London. He experimented with new farming methods on his estate at Tiptree in Essex.
Mechi was born in London 22 May 1802, the third son of Giacomo Mechi, a citizen of Bologna, who had settled in England early in life, was naturalised, and obtained a post at Kensington Palace in the household of George III. His mother was Elizabeth, daughter of J. Beyer of Poland Street, London. John at the age of sixteen was placed as a clerk in a house in Walbrook, trading with Newfoundland, a job he had for ten years. In 1828 he set up on his own account as a cutler in a small workshop at 130 Leadenhall Street, from where he removed to No. 4 in the same street in 1830. Between 1830 and 1840 he made his fortune through the 'magic razor strop' which bears his name After the Crimean war and a fashion for beards, sales declined. On 10 November 1840 he took out a patent for 'improvements in apparatus to be applied to lamps in order to carry off heat and the products of consumption'.
