About the Item

All Bitossi ceramics are entirely handmade by our artisans at every stage of the production process. Green Line is the name of the collection, an evocative title inspired by a historically and culturally significant context: the "Green Line" of Beirut, a symbol of the city after the Lebanese civil war. It was the demarcation line separating Muslim West Beirut from Christian East Beirut along Damascus Street. Novembre’s thought focuses on nature’s unstoppable resilience, reborn from the ruins and horrors of war: "a flower will grow again above every human error" (Fabio Novembre). The series features tall, single-stem vases — four sculptural pieces made through the slip-casting technique in white clay, coated with semi-matte black glaze. Vase with one stem, hand-turned with white clay. The shape is made by two elements: on the base there is a little tray to contain water, while the upper part is cylindrical. The glaze is applied in two different phases: during the first phase the surface is covered with a smooth black matt glaze, while during the second one, a tough glaze is applied with an airbrush to create the embossed effect. Production Year: 2009.
