About the Item

Amidst all the kitschy Hawaiian drummers and African dancers of the 1930s and 1940s, these pieces stand out for their rarity and gravity. Solid and dignified, they were no doubt sculpted by an artist with serious talent. The surviving label suggests that this pair was sold at Ruisseaux, 7317 Wade Park Avenue in Cleveland.
