About the Item
Born in Edinburgh (Scotland) in 1967, his parents decided to move in search of Spain's "light" when he was six. He studied at the Granada School of Arts and Craft and Photography in Madrid. But his true teacher was his father, renowned sculptor Douglas Govan, who taught him his technique and the magic of "reading the stone". His mother, Ann Govan, a painter, taught him to see the world as a "composition."
An 8 year sponsorship by Sam Benady from the Sammer Gallery of Puerto Banús and Sandra Billington, interior designer from Marbella (S.B. Interiors), allowed him to flourish as an artist.
There are Toby Govan pieces in Spain, Germany, France, Great Britain and the USA. His greatest work "In your Arms", weighs three and a half tons, and is included in a collection of 5 that he donated to the City of Estepona in April 2012, allowing passers-by to interact with em. He is currently working on collection in Lapis Lazuli collection.
