19th Century French Carved Marble Statue of Young Girl Seated and Reading

About the Item

Decorate a shelf or a lady's desk with this adorable antique statue. Hand carved in France circa 1880, the marble statue stands on an attached square rocky form base, and depicts a young girl seated on a rock stool, and reading a book. One hand holds the book steady while the other follows the lines of text on the page. The sweet young lady, with legs crossed, is leaned over her book with head bowed and her wavy hair spilling around her face. The sculpture is very well done with wonderful details including necklace around her face. The elegant sculpture is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated finish. Measures: 4.5” W x 5” D x 14.25” H.
