About the Item
A highly decorative and skilfully crafted round white marble relief depicting Hercules and the serpent like dragon Ladon. Hercules was the son of Zeus in Greek Mythology. Ladon guarded the golden apples in the Garden of Hesperides. In pursuing his eleventh labour (The Labours Of Hercules) Ladon was killed. A particularly detailed and polished marble relief with intricate carvings of the serpents scales and fangs which complement the rippled smooth muscles of the horse and Hercules. Hercules features are clear with his flexed back muscles and curled hair right down to the minute detailing of his helmet. A truly magnificent piece that would sure to be a talking point in any room.
