Art Deco Stoneware and Silver "Argenta" Vase by Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg

About the Item

This stunning Art Deco "Argenta" Vase was realized by the esteemed Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg in Sweden circa 1940. It features a subtly tapered conical stoneware body handpainted in a rich smoked teal hue that cantilevers over a circular base. It also features a circular mouth with a raised border and a dramatically sloped neck. The sumptuous smoked teal surface has been overlaid with a wealth of geometric detailing in silver including line detailing connected by latticework motifs; a prominent band of silver running along the top of the base; and float octogram (eight pointed star polygons) floating in the center of the body. Additionally, there are pyramidal forms with one half filled in silver, and the other presenting negative space running up the neck of the piece. With its clean modernist lines and beautiful attention to detail, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid century modern to contemporary. Excellent vintage condition. Marked "Wilhelm Kåge for Gustavsberg". Sweden, circa 1940 Dimensions: Height: 8" x Diameter: 5".
