Austrian Amphora RStK Vase Pair with Gold Metal Mounts, Paul Dachsel Attr.

$3,000per set

About

A pair of early 20th century Art Nouveau vases in hard earthenware pottery with gold metal mounts, design attributed to Paul Dachsel. Manufactured between 1902 and 1903 for Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel (RStK) Amphora of Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia (Austria). The vases are decorated with stylized leaves in relief decorated in matte green, brown and blue with gilt accent lines and gold-tone metal mounts. Impressed marks underfoot: Amphora [in an oval] / 3912 [model/form number] / 30. Very good and original condition, no chips, cracks or repair, each measuring 11.75 in. H x 7.75 in. at widest. Paul Dachsel attribution: See Richard L. Scott's Ceramics from The House of Amphora, 1890-1915, pg. 139 & 140; figs. 212 & 213. Scott includes model numbers 3910 and 3911 in the section of the catalogue dedicated to designs by Paul Dachsel, describing these model numbers as "probably Paul Dachsel". These model numbers directly precede our example (model 3912) with similar stylized foliate designs in low relief decorated in matte greens and blues with gold painted accents.
