GEORGES BRIARD Black and Gold Ceramic Vase for Hyalyn 1960s Hollywood Regency

About the Item

Gold inlaid black matte ceramic vase by Georges Briard for Hyalyn Pottery, USA, 1960s. Signed GEORGES BRIARD on the front of the vase, the design is carved into the ceramic and painted in 22 karat gold. 1960s Georges Briard vase, matte black with gold design. The bird with the olive branch in his beak was probably inspired by the peace dove after Pablo Picasso, on the top a circle with an abstract sun design with a face, on the bottom Ace of Spades in a circle, the signature is in front, the design is only on the front. The 22 karat gold against the black mat color of the vase add the elegance of the Hollywood Regency Art Deco style. Very chic Mid century black and gold vase. Made in USA Circa 1960s for Hyalyn Dimensions: 8 1/4" Height x 5 1/2" Diameter. The flying bird on the vase was probably inspired by the "Dove of peace" of Picasso, In 1949 Pablo Picasso created "Dove of Peace," also known as "La Colombe". This simple yet profound artwork was designed for the World Peace Congress in Paris and has since become an iconic symbol of hope and unity. The drawing features a white dove with an olive branch in its beak, symbolizing peace and harmony. The choice of the olive branch is significant, as it has been a traditional symbol of peace since ancient times. Picasso's peace dove has transcended its original context and has become a universal symbol of peace. The image is often reproduced and used in various contexts to advocate for peace and nonviolence. The artist's ability to distill such a complex and profound concept into a simple yet powerful image is a testament to his artistic genius and the enduring impact of his work. About the artist: Georges Briard was the professional name of Jascha Brojdo, a Russian-born American designer and artist known for his contributions to mid-century modern glassware, ceramics, and home decor. His work included glassware items such as plates, bowls, glass trays, barware, and more. Briard's designs were sought after for their unique and artistic flair, making them popular choices for stylish home decor during the mid-20th century. In addition to glassware, Georges Briard also created other types of home decor items, including metal trays, ceramics, and even textile designs.
