About the Item
FLOOR VASE
Siershahner Feinsteinzeugfabrik
DEKOR CAPRI 1950s
Ritzdekor (sgrafitto)
A huge 50s or 60s studio quality 'Klinker' floor vase nr. 54/50 with an sgraffito
decor designed for Sawa Keramik. It is completely hand thrown and hand decorated and as such shows all of the tiny imperfections that one might expect from an entirely hand-crafted item. No two were ever alike!
SIERSHAHNER FEINSTEINZEUGFABRIK GmbH was established as a branch of the Übelacker Keramik factory by Johann Übelacker in 1949. As of December of that year when operations started, there were a total of 16 highly skilled employees, mostly from Bunzlau. The count had risen to 160 due to high demand by a year after its foundation. They first produced fireproof stoneware and tableware in the Bunzlau style, but a little later a branch in Mogendorf was added to the Siershahn Factory, in which around 50 employees began producing klinker ceramics starting in 1952. In the same year, their wares were presented for the first time at the industrial fair in Hannover, and included vases and other ceramic containers in four basic décor variants: ‘Natural Klinker’ (made of natural brown clay), ‘Capri’ (glazed a matte gray) ‘Cuba’ (frosted beige and cloudy yellow), and Tirol (frosted green and flocked white).
The entire Übelacker venture remained quite successful through the post-war period up until an overseas investment in the 1980s turned into a financial debacle that left the family struggling with debt. The factory in Siershahn had to be closed as a result. Finally, in 1990, the main plant in Ransbach filed for bankruptcy.
KLINKER POTTERY is made from a native red clay that was otherwise employed in the production of a particular sort of partially-vitrified bricks, commonly referred to as "klinkers"—so-called for the metallic sound they make when struck together. Like the namesake bricks, klinker pottery is hard-fired at very high temperatures. In addition to being hand-thrown, it's usually also burnished and decorated by hand, and only partially glazed if at all. The production methods tend to make these items very water-resistant, and in most cases, waterproof, even without an interior glaze. The Krupps marketed their products under the name "Krupp-Klinker." (Incidentally, being denser than normal bricks, Klinker bricks provide relatively poor insulation. On the other hand, their hard surfaces make them frost-resistant, so they are well-suited for use in facades and as pavers.)

- turquoise lava glazed RUSCHA FLOOR VASE 60s 70s hand-thrown marked G.- 863-40By RuschaLocated in Kumhausen, DEbeautiful FLOOR VASE attributed to / most probably by RUSCHA KERAMIK RUSCHA KERAMIK was launched in 1948 when Rudolf Schardt assumed the management of Klein & Schardt, his father Georg's ceramics factory in the town of Rheinbach, located near Bonn in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. (RUSCHA is a syllabic abbreviation of his name.) The timing of the re-founding ensured that the company was in a good position to benefit from Germany's post-war growth boom. RUSCHA KERAMIK became a leading manufacturer during the "golden age" of Western German ceramics and is credited with some of the era's key developments. It produced some very successful and innovative forms and glazes, including the 'Vulcano' décor (Otto Gerharz, 1951)—which heralded the move towards thick, dripping fat-lava glazes—and the iconic no. 313 (Kurt Tschörner, 1954), probably the period's most famous shape. Hans Welling, Adele Bolz, Heinz Siery, and Cilli Wörsdörfer were among other notable designers to work for RUSCHA. RUSCHA KERAMIK was celebrated for exquisite wall plates, plaques, and tiles—manufactured for both indoor and outdoor applications—as well as its high-quality vases. Specimens from the 1970s will frequently exhibit remarkable lava and volcanic glazes. When RUSCHA closed its factory in 1996, Scheurich acquired many of its designs and molds; distinctive silver RUSCHA labels were sometimes applied to the subsequent production. Notes on identification: White clay was used practically exclusively. The rare examples made with red-brown clay are thought to date from periods when normal supply sources ran out. Embossed and incised base-numbering was used for vessels. If a vase was made in more than one size, a single digit indicating relative size followed the form number. Low form numbers (< 100) were sometimes preceded by a letter. Like a few other manufacturers, RUSCHA KERAMIK occasionally recycled form numbers, a cause of distress for some collectors. Pieces were never molded with "Germany" or "West Germany." - Schaub Lorenz Stereovox-S 50s 60s Floorstanding Side Table Speaker WalnutBy Schaub LorenzLocated in Kumhausen, DEA piece of German history: a Stereovox-S 688-2 floorstanding side table speaker built between 1961 and 1964 The roots of the German brand Schaub Lorenz can be found in the entrepreneurial spirit and visionary mind of Carl Lorenz. Being the first to use steam engines for the industrial production of Morse code apparatuses, the engineer, inventor and founder started the legacy of this iconic brand in 1880. Under the name C. Lorenz AG the company grew to be a worldwide pioneer in radio technology in the 1920ies. It was leading the development of wireless communication in all important fields such as airplane navigation, radio broadcasting, telephony or teleprinters. The company developed one of the most advanced cypher machines used for krypted messaging . Schaub-Lorenz was founded in 1921 in Berlin under G. Schaub Apparatebau-Gesellschaft m.b.H. The company became pioneering in the history of radio, being the first to take the production of home receivers and other communication products to an industrial level. Right from the start the mission was clear: to make innovative technology affordable for the larger public. With the introduction of the “Illustra”, the first 14” color TV in 1952 began the great course of the Schaub Lorenz brand as a leading home entertainment marque. Again the company was at the forefront of innovation developing iconic designs for TV-sets, radios, sound systems and producing one of the first gaming consoles for international markets. they still expanded and in 1967 they became the biggest German manufacturer for portable radio sets. The company - or better the name Schaub-Lorenz was sold in 1986 - the decade of the end of many traditional German consumer electronics goods companies. --- a real loss. ----- I may highly recommend to use a vintage radio...Category
