Japanese antique white-glazed sake bottle / [Satsuma ware] vase / 1700-1800s
About the Item
This registration is one of the pottery called Satsuma ware, which was made in Kagoshima Prefecture around the 18th to 19th centuries during the Edo period.
(The area with a red circle on the map is a Satsuma ware kiln)
It is a kiln with a history of 400 years, and has produced objects of various shapes and colors.
Among them, there are broadly white and black pottery.
This is white pottery, and since the soil has a slightly high iron content, it is thought to have been made by applying a white glaze and a transparent glaze on top.
Although it is all white, the shades of the glaze give it an atmosphere like a sumi-e painting.
One of the charms of white Satsuma ware is the very fine cracks in the glaze called "kannyu", and this one also has very fine "kannyu".
And because it is well-fired, it has a fresh and transparent beauty.
It is a simple yet very attractive vase.
There were no scratches and it did not leak even when filled with water.
It is in good condition.
However, since it is from the current season, if you leave it in water for a long period of time, the unglazed part at the bottom may become slightly damp.
This vase also comes with a wooden storage box.
It is rare to come across something as attractive as this.
During this procurement, we happened to get our hands on this beautiful vase.
A recommended item.
Also, I want many people to know the goodness of antiques, so I set the price reasonably.

Japanese Antique Pottery Hanging Vase/Edo/1800s/Boat-Shaped Vase
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
This is a black-glazed boat-shaped pottery made in the late Edo period of Japan.
This will be a hanging vase.
Pour water directly into this and decorate the flowers.
Also, perhaps this is a pottery called Seto-yaki.
Seto is an ancient kiln located in Aichi Prefecture.
Various shapes and colors were produced there, and in the late Edo period, dark glazed pottery was also produced.
When a dark brown glaze is applied, the areas with thick glaze look black, and the areas with thin glaze look brown.
I put water directly into this and left it for a day, but there was no water leakage.
I would say it is in very good condition.
Although it is a small item, it has a very strong presence.
It has a glossy and elegant appearance.
There are many types of Seto pottery...

Japanese Ceramic Sake Bottle Chosen Karatsu Ware

The long neck bottle of classic form was heavily potted with coarse clay with high iron content. The flask, circa 18th century Edo period, was purposed for sake storage but also substituted as a flower vase during tea ceremony. The surface is covered in glossy black glaze and contrasts strikingly with white ash glaze around the shoulder. The white, fired with straw, displays a splashing feather effect and fine crackles, blending in with the black artistically. This type of Karatsu ware...
