A korean ceramic celadon vase that features a bulbous body tapering towards a narrow mouth. Molded and decorated by hand, the smooth glazed celadon surface exhibits a characteristic blue-grey hue. Stylized geometric and floral motifs depicting lotus blossoms encircle the vase's lower half. The base bears an seal with korean script.
Celadon refers to both the sea-green glazed color and porcelain type originating from China and East Asia. Korean celadon wares utilize this translucent greenish-blue glaze created from firing iron-rich clay in an oxygen-deprived kiln. The polished sheen and subtle coloration distinguish celadon as a hallmark of korean ceramic arts.
