About the Item

This authentic mid-century modern ceramic vase was made by the West German art pottery producer Carstens Tönnieshof in the 1960s. As can be seen from the embossed markings on the base, this is model number 1239-35 (see photos). The vase has been decorated in a geometric pattern typical for the era, in shades of gray, yellow and white mixing both smooth glaze and fat lava (volcano) glaze. The inside features an eye-catching, glossy, turquoise glaze that contrasts well with the gray. A mid-century collectors piece that will fit perfectly in any modern or mid-century interior. In very good vintage condition. The vase has no cracks or chips. A little turquoise bleeding in the yellow and white motif that originated from the glazing process itself (see photos). There is a little turquoise glaze missing on the rim (see photo) that also originated from the glazing process (not a chip, the surface is smooth). Dimension: height 35 cm/ 13 3/4", width 18 cm/ 7", diameter top 9 cm/ 3 1/2", diameter base 9.5 cm/ 3 1/2". Weight: 1525 g/ 3.36 lbs
