About the Item

An extraordinary one-of-a-kind ceramic vase from 1930s Albisola, Italy — hand-painted and signed, this piece embodies the expressive power and craftsmanship of the region's best ceramic traditions. Its rounded silhouette is adorned with an abstract equine figure in full motion, evoking the mythical energy of the Sagittarius zodiac sign. The stylized horse, rendered in gestural black outlines and surrounded by washes of celestial blue, green, and violet, conveys a dreamlike, almost cosmological narrative. The reverse features spiral and solar motifs incised and brushed in relief — recalling the dreamlike graphic language of artists active in Albisola’s experimental ateliers at the time. The decoration and execution suggest an artistic milieu related to figures such as Tullio d’Albisola or artists from the Mazzotti workshop, though the specific hand remains unidentified. Richly glazed with a painterly surface texture, this vase blurs the line between functional object and sculptural canvas — a rare and collectible work of early 20th-century Italian decorative art.
