About the Item

Gorgeously glazed in hues of soft brown and ivory, this tall, elegant vase depicting a stylized antelope was hand-glazed by artisans at the famous Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati at the end of the Art Deco period in 1952. The upper edge of the vase exhibits a lovely, misty dripping effect in gray glaze, and the air around the antelope is marked with wavy, vertical lines that suggest the air is vibrating. The bottom of the vase includes an original opening -- not drilled, but an original part of the mold -- to permit this piece to serve as as a lamp base. The bottom also shows the Rookwood mark and the date of production.
