"Lion and Antelope", Bottle-Form Art Deco Vase by Primavera, possibly Buthaud
About the Item
Large and substantial, this unique bottle-form vase features a lion and antelope on one side, and a branch with leaves on the other, all glazed in rich deep brown and ivory. Each side includes botanical forms in low relief in the background. The maker was Primavera, which was established by the famous Le Printemps department store in Paris. In the 1920s and 30s, Primavera employed a number of famous artists including René Buthaud, who may have been the artist for this piece. Primavera also worked with ceramic artists such as those at Longwy to create designs that would appeal to the modern consumer. The piece is marked on the bottom.
