About the Item
A Majolica glazed Seaweed and Shell, Coral footed bowl, by Victoria Pottery Co. England, Circa 1880s.
The Victoria Pottery Company began in 1882 at the Victoria Works on Lonsdale Street, Stoke-on-Trent, and continued only to c.1889.
The Victoria Pottery Co. produced very finely modeled majolica and received considerable acclaim.
This bowl is a fine example of their use of color and beautiful mold work.
The bowl is made of curved brown scalloped shaped shells, overlayed with green seaweeds. The shells are linked together with a band of textured turquoise coral, and rimmed in a bright yellow.
The bowl sits raised on a low pedestal molded as turquoise coral that varies in form as the bowl is turned. A bright turquoise interior.
