Sarreguemines French Barbotine Majolica Trompe l'Oeil Melon Covered Tureen

About the Item

A French Majolica covered tureen in the shape of a trompe l’oeil melon by Sarreguemines, circa 1900. Molded in the form of a large yellow melon with green vines and leaves. The lid is decorated with leaves and a top knob molded as a small melon. The bottom half of the melon is attached to a large under tray molded as a curling leaf with deep relief veining. The base is stamped: Sarreguemines, France. An impressed mold No. 3680 Measures: 13 in. L x 9.5 in. W x 7 in. H In excellent condition.
