About the Item

Spectacular and very rare, this large, high style Art Deco bronze centerpiece with a beautiful verdigris patina, consisting of a semi-spherical dish richly decorated with a dense pattern of stylized leaves, supported by three nude male figures, was sculpted by Maurice Guiraud Rivière in France. The three figures are stylized in the Art Deco manner, and yet are highly detailed. Rivière is known for his nude female figures in bronze and stone, but his sculptures featuring the male figure are very rare. The only other examples we have seen were given a silvered finish, unlike the verdigris finish here. The bronze is mounted on a stepped-down, richly-veined green marble base, which is engraved with the sculptor's signature.
