Austrian Pair Antique Terracotta Match Holder Striker Figures
About the Item
A fine pair Austrian antique terracotta figural match holders and strikers dating from around 1890. The figures comprised of one modeled as a girl carrying a basket on her back with a match striker to the base and the other is modeled as a boy holding a basket in front of him with a match striker to the front edge of the basket. Both stand raised on a round stepped pedestal base and the boys jacket and girls sash have been hand painted in bright blue glazes while the rest of the figure remains unglazed. The boy has an impressed JH makers mark to the base along with an incised number 25.
Provenance: Acquired in the UK Art Market.
In good Condition with wear associated with age and use.
