About the Item

This vintage hand-painted Royal Delft porcelain, made in Holland, is a coved fish herring fish platter or serving dish. Since 1879, each hand-painted article produced by De Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles has been marked like this one, consisting of (from top to bottom): - A beaker / apothecary bottle - The initials JT, from Joost Thooft (company owner in 1876) -The word ‘Delft’ - To the left of the brand are the painter’s initials (HVY in this case) - To the right are two letters indicating the year code (CV in this case which denotes 1976) The Foundry, where this gorgeous piece was hand-made, is called De Koninklijke, which is the only remaining Delft Foundry for Delft, or earthenware factories that were established in Delft, Netherlands, in the 17th. Century. It has been active for more than 350 years. This classic blue and white color palette, with flower, leaf and bird motifs were brought back from China by the Dutch East India Company. In excellent condition.
