Doctor Wall First Period Worcester Sparrow Beak Jug Porcelain, Circa 1770

This is a fine and early Porcelain Worcester Sparrow -beak Milk Jug of the characteristic shape, with a simple loop handle, made in Worcester's First or Doctor Wall period, circa 1770-1780. The jug is made from Soft Paste porcelain and shows a soft green to transmitted light. It also has isolated areas containing tiny peppery pinpricks within the glaze which is another characteristic of Worcester soft paste porcelain of this period. The jug is hand decorated overglaze, with a floral sprig pattern in the French style using soft enamels of purple, pinks, burnt orange, blue and green. The inside rim of the jug has an underglaze, dark blue border pattern and the rim is gilded. The jug is unmarked to the base as was often the case.
