Floral and Turquoise Ceramic Fruit Platter by Manufacture of Longwy Enamels

About the Item

Beautiful French Art Deco style long and oval-shaped earthenware fruit platter by Emaux de Longwy, hand painted and enameled with polychrome floral decoration in white, pink, green, red, blue, and yellow color on blue background. Turquoise ground with factory mark and numbers on the base: F. 3524 (number of the form) and D. 652 (number of the decor). Dimensions: height 13 cm / 5.11 in, width 21 cm / 8.26 in, length 59 cm / 23.23 in. The Longwy pottery was established in 1798 in a former convent. Its production gained fame after the visit of Emperor Napoleon I, who ordered table services from Longwy for the Imperial Houses of the Legion of Honor. Through the collaboration with Printemps-Primavera, marks a fruitful period, the culmination of which will be the participation in the Decorative Arts exhibition of 1925, circa 1918. The Art Deco period boosted the company’s success to new heights in the 1930s. The company is now designated as a Living Heritage Company.
