“French Romance” by Manita Makes, Spain, 2023

About the Item

Cups made by Manita Makes, which are handcrafted in ceramic and hand painted. BIO: Behind the beautiful Manita Makes project is the artist Saro Delgado. Born and raised in Mexico City, where she studied Industrial Design and fell in love with ceramics as a mode of artistic expression. In his collection “French Romance” he tells us about European fantasy, failure, migration and the loss of innocence. The pieces recreate antique French and English tableware in a childlike way, featuring Miss Romance and Rat, characters that reflect their own migratory experiences. In the creator's own words, "Miss Romance is me, it's you, it's all of us." Blinded by European romanticization, little Miss Romance lives her adventures in the most inhospitable cities, but she doesn't care because she is “Living the dream.” Together with Rat, she learns to face reality and overcome her naivety, especially when it comes to her idealization of certain aspects of European life and her weakness for men with rings and artistic inclinations.
