About the Item

This is a very decorative oval shaped serving dish or platter by Mason's Ironstone, Lane Delph, England in the "Rock , Leaves and Flowers" Pattern, dating to the very early period of Mason's ironstone, circa 1818. This Desert dish or platter has an oval shape with curved raised edges and an embossed raised design to the inside base and rim edges. It is decorated in one of Mason's Chinese influenced hand painted patterns called "Rock, Leaves and Flowers" with gold gilt highlights, as documented on page 154 of:- A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Masons Collectors' club. This is a rarely seen pattern. The platter has one of the earliest ironstone impressed marks to the base; "Mason's Patent Ironstone China " in two straight lines, which dates it to a very early date, circa 1813 to 1818, as Mason's ironstone only starting in 1813.
