Glazed Ceramic Owl Form Tankard with Pewter Mounts
About the Item
An extremely charming stoneware tankard in the form of an owl. With a two toned gray and blue glaze and handsome pewter mounts. The thumb lift depicting a female face within a heart shaped frame. Likely Mettlach, incised mark on base indistinct.
Centuries before Hedwig became Harry Potter’s loyal sidekick, the owl was known as a companion to Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare — possibly because of the bird’s phenomenal vision and skill as a hunter.
It is owls’ sense of mystery, their nocturnal nature and elusiveness that account for their power to captivate.
Every home should have one.
