About the Item

Hand-Painted Talavera Ceramic Jug by Mave, Spain, Mid-20th Century A finely hand-painted Talavera ceramic jug, crafted in Spain and signed Talavera Mave to the underside. Cylindrical in form with a subtly flared rim, shaped spout and cobalt-glazed handle, the jug is decorated in traditional maiolica technique with a continuous pastoral scene featuring a prancing deer, stylised foliage, and a richly painted landscape beneath a soft sky. The colour palette—typical of Talavera de la Reina pottery—features vivid cobalt blue, greens, ochre, and mustard tones, all applied with expressive brushwork. A striking decorative object, both functional and sculptural in presence, reflecting the enduring folk-art tradition of Spanish majolica ware. Origin: Talavera de la Reina, Spain Date: Circa 1960–1990 Material: Glazed earthenware Dimensions: 25 cm high x 17 cm wide x 11.5 cm deep Condition: Very good condition with no chips, cracks or restorations.
