About the Item

A beautiful and unique ceramic art piece by Kati Tuominen-Niittylä, one of the most prominent modern Finnish ceramic artists and a member of the iconic Arabia Art Department Society. This beautiful piece is from the Morocco series inspired by traditional Moroccon pottery with clay in different colours and vibrant hand coloured motifs. This piece is the largest of the series in our collection and has earthly colours and tones reflecting the true inspiration behind them. With a diameter just over 60 cm, this piece is quite noticeable. This piece is from the Artist`s own collection and is stamped with her initials. About Kati Tuominen-Niittylä: KTN has created a remarkable career in ceramics. Tuominen-Niittylä has designed numerous tableware and objects for Arabia's selections, such as the Venice platter, the Storybirds collection and the KoKo tableware series in collaboration with Kristina Riska. Tuominen-Niittylä has also participated in the implementation of large-scale public artwork projects, such as the Gekko at the Kamppi subway entrance and the restoration of the facade of the National Theater facing the Kaisaniemi park in collaboration with Pekka Paikkar. Kati Tuominen-Niittylä's works have been exhibited in many private and joint exhibitions in Finland and abroad. Her works are also part of prominent collections like the Röhsska Museum, Ulster Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum and New Ceramic Museum Tajimi, Japan. Kati Tuominen-Niittylä has been awarded the Grand Prix, gold medal and honorable mentions in Mino's international ceramics competition, and the Formland prize in Denmark. The Storybirds collection designed by Tuominen-Niittylä for Arabia received the Desig Plus award at Frankfrut's Ambiente fair in 1994. Tuominen-Niittylä received the Kaj Franck award in 2007 and the Pro Finlandia medal in 2018.
