Piero Fornasetti Capricorn Zodiac Porcelain Plate, The Zodiac Pharmacopoeia

About the Item

Piero Fornasetti Capricorn Zodiaci Porcelain Plate, Made for Crinos, #9 in Series, Titled "Gli Zodiaci Farmacopei", The Zodiac Pharmacopoeia. 1960s The special commission plate made by Piero Fornasetti for Crinos represents the Zodiac sign, Capricorn. It depicts various attributes of the sign and the dates. The design depicts an open ancient reference book- a Zodiac Pharmacopoeia, with attributes of the sign painted in gold. Surrounding the book are various apothecary jars, bottles and boxes. A pharmacopoeia is a book, especially an official publication, containing a list of medicinal drugs with their effects and directions for their use. Here the use is an amusing reference to the characteristics of the Zodiac sign instead of drugs. Dimensions: 9 1/2 inches diameter x 1 inch high Mark: Printed in black over a green German stamp "Gli Zodiaci Farmacopei, No 9/ Especially made for Crinos by Fornasetti" and the hand holding the paint brush and MILANO/ Made in Italy below.
