About the Item

Elegant dish, bowl by Wilhelm Kåge from the “KAPA” series. The design was a collaboration between Kåge and three colleagues Björn Alskog, Axel Pettersson, and Birger Arvidsson. Designed and manufactured at Gustavsberg studio during the late 1950s. Made from stoneware. The ceramic is quite heavy. Glaze shifting between shades of brown and green. Stamped underneath " Kåge Verkstad, KAPA". The pottery bowl remain in very good vintage condition. Minor manufacturing glaze defects. Swedish ceramic artist and designer, Wilhelm Kåge (1889-1960) was primarily active in the late-1920s through the 1950s and is best known for his contribution to functionalist style, as well his work as the artistic leader of the Gustavsberg porcelain factory. Sometime in the 1940s, together with Stig Lindberg and Berndt Friberg, Kåge founded Gustavsberg Studio. Some of his most famous work are the "Argenta" series from the 1930s and "Farsta" stoneware collection from the 1930s as well. Which is considered his best work. The pieces from the Farsta collection are regarded today as some of the most influential ceramics to have been produced in Sweden during the 20th century.
