French Faience Covered Blue & White Jug
About the Item
French Faience covered blue & white jug,
circa 1900
The underglaze blue and white faience jug is raised on a hollow foot. The body has eight panels. One side with a sailing ship with ships seen in the background with a small village with a church visible to the right. The other side shows a young boy offering a tray of grapes to a seated woman who holds up a bunch of grapes to eat within a rustic background. Below the spout and around the handle are leafy scrolls. A similar but denser decoration surrounds the upper shoulder and the flared foot.
Dimensions: 10 3/4 inches high x 7 inches wide x 5 inches deep
Mark: In underglaze blue on the underside of the foot- R AP/277.
