Rare Henriot Quimper Faience Hat Series Plate by Claude Sanson, 1950s

About the Item

Rare Henriot Quimper pottery plate is a part of the Hat series designed by Claude Sanson, the granddaughter of Jules Henriot, in 1950s. The series is dedicated to traditional Breton headdresses in various areas of Bretagne; this plate depicts a woman wearing Quimper style hat. Some of the Hat series plates were made for Primavera brand of Au Printemps stores in Paris, with thin blue dotted line around the central design and blue trim on the rim, and were signed with Primavera France Henriot Quimper; however, this plate appears to be made for the Henriot Quimper brand, and not for a retailer, with a very different, more pronounced trim and different colorway. The plate uses wide graphic, abstract design as a trim, done in blue of bright yellow background, and no line around the central design. The plate is signed with Henriot Quimper France mark that was in use from 1922 to 1984, the designer's name, and the area of Bretagne that the headdress belongs to. Plate is in good vintage condition with a few minor glaze flakes on rim that are consistent with age and use and do not detract from the beauty and craftsmanship of the plate. Three flakes are visible when plate is displayed; please see pictures.
