About the Item

A scarce barbotine Majolica glazed oval Asparagus plate, France, circa 1880-1890, maker unknown. This unusual plate shows six raised asparagus spears in a ribbed pattern, glazed in a pale yellow, stemming from a scrolled Acanthus leaf base. The spears are separated by transfer printed, hand-colored floral sprays. The shaped rim follows the form of the asparagus. Marked: Impressed mold number 20200. Reference: pg. 142, Artichauts et Asperges en Barbotine, Maryse Bottero Measures: 11 in. L x 6.25 in. W. x 1.0 in. H Very good antique condition, the expected light surface wear.
